Ercros celebrates centenary with 30-million € factory expansion

Ercros Sabiñánigo celebrates its centenary this year with the expansion of its factory, which has meant an investment of 30 million euros in the last four years. The company’s production plant was the first one established in the city of Sabiñánigo, it was the germ from which the city grew and attracted new factories. Now, after 100 years of history, Ercros has become a benchmark, as well as being a promoter of the industrial, cultural and social life of Sabiñánigo. The company has a staff of 210 workers in the city.

Ercros is an industrial group with three business lines: Chlorine Derivatives, Intermediate Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals. It is a leading company in the main markets in which it operates and exports almost half of its sales to more than 103 countries, mainly in the EU.

In Sabiñánigo, Ercros started off manufacturing sodium chlorate, expanding its portfolio over the following decades and adapting to technological and legal changes. Currently, the company manufactures chlorine, soda, potash and other electrochemical  products in Aragón.

In 2018, a new chloro-sosa electrolysis plant was set up, the chlorine-potash plant was adapted to make chlorine-soda, and a new hydrochloric acid plant was built. These latest additions were officially inaugurated on Saturday, in an institutional act held on the occasion of the centenary.

Latest investments include the expansion of the tablet plant for the treatment of swimming pool water, which is currently under construction. Its start-up is scheduled for 2019.

Overall, the investments made by Ercros in Sabiñanigo over the last decade and until 2019 will increase the plant’s production capacity by 17% and will have involved an investment of 60.3 million euros. They have also entailed an increase of the workforce, which currently counts 210 people.
