Gomà-Camps scales up its production in Ejea de los Caballeros with 33M € investment

Gomà-Camps has inaugurated a new tissue paper production line in its plant in Ejea de los Caballeros (Aragón). The enlargement, in which the company has invested nearly 33 million euros, allows for the preparation of cellulose pulp and the manufacture of tissue coils on site.

In November 2016, work began on a 12,000 m2 site in the Valdeferrín industrial estate of Ejea de los Caballeros, where three new buildings have been built: A material warehouse for the storage of  cellulose; a plant to locate the new paper machine and a new area for packing and storage of reels.

These new facilities will enable Gomà-Camps to produce 34,000 tonnes of tissue paper per year in three-ton reels. “We are in the second phase of the project of growth and expansion of the company in Aragón. This is a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the best technology in the market”, explained the company’s Managing Director, Matíes Gomà Camps. The investment is a further step to positioning the company in the global consumer market, and particularly in Southern Europe.

The expansion has led to the creation of 30 new direct jobs at the Ejea plant and nearly 70 indirect jobs. Qualified personnel who, after a previous selection, have received specific training for five months and are already active, since February, in the Ejea plant.

“The expansion is in addition to our Ejea transformation facilities. In total, there are 125 people on the staff. In mass consumption we have a turnover of around 60 million euros, which equals some 40,000 tonnes of finished product”, insisted the general manager. With the new line, Gomà-Camps optimizes the production process, allowing to improve its margin and income statement. “We have gone from buying the paper reels to producing them ourselves,” the director said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Government of Aragon, Javier Lambán, who highlighted the company’s commitment to Ejea de los Caballeros. Gomà-Camps was set up in Ejea de los Caballeros in 2005. Since then, more than 75 million euros have been invested.

Gomà-Camps is a family-owned group with an international presence. This year, the company celebrates the 260th anniversary of its foundation and currently has subsidiaries in Spain, France and Morocco.
